Advanced Stitching Off the Surface with Joan Kennedy
Tuesday, May 27: 12:30-3:30 pm
Imagination takes over in this open-ended workshop. Drawing inspiration from their own ideas and Joan’s stitched work, students will design and stitch their own three-dimensional embroideries. Using Joan’s hand dyed wool yarn and felted fabrics, students will explore ways that off the surface stitches can be used to depict real or imaginary things. They will be coached in choosing among the stitches learned in Beginning Stitching Off the Surface for their designs. Additional stitches that are worked above the surface of the fabric will be presented. Stitching with different threads and yarns will be discussed. Students will leave the class with a design to continue working at home, instructions for the stitches they’ve learned and skills and resources for pursuing more stitching on their own. This class is open to students who have taken the Beginning Class or by consent of the instructor. Students should bring their ideas, a pair of small sharp, pointed scissors and supplies from the Beginner class along with any threads or yarns that they would like to experiment with. Additional fee of $7 for yarn, wool fabric, additional needles and other supplies is due to instructor at the time of the class.
