Virtual Basic Techniques in Pen and Ink with Ann Thomas

Try your hand at something new and very portable. Using a few basic waterproof sketch pens and a little watercolor in your sketch book, create simple drawings with lots of feeling!  Become familiar with basic pen strokes and enhancing them using watercolor expressively. The supply list is available online.

All Pen and Ink Classes

Option One -Waterproof (felt tip) ink pens in several size tips, including a brush pen, a good one is Faber-Castell 4PITT Artist Pens, Black. OR

Option Two - any sketch pen with waterproof ink, there are some very nice fountain pens that I use for sketching – example: Lamy pen, Noodler, Platinum Carbon Ink Pen, and one of my favorites the Very Fine Waterproof Sharpie pen.

Sketch pad, a size you are comfortable using, not too small please! with paper heavy enough to accept watercolor. I use an inexpensive 90 lb paper sketch pad from Blick Art.

A few sheets of tracing paper

Soft pencils, sharpener and kneaded eraser

Water container

Small set of watercolors or watercolor pencils.  Watercolor brushes in several sizes, I use a # 6 and #10 round with fine tips, 1 or 2 brushes are sufficient.

Rags or paper towel for cleanup

Students are encouraged to bring any photos they would like help in developing and to work on in case of inclement weather.

I encourage students to bring the tools they already have and are comfortable working with.
