Oil Painting for Beginners with Julie Anna Freund

Saturdays, March 18, 25, April 1, 8, 15:  1-3:30 pm

In this class series for true beginners, students will learn how to create an oil painting on canvas from a photo reference. Students will take their reference image and scale it up onto a canvas using a grid system. After the initial scaling and drawing steps, the class will begin painting with acrylic paint to create an underpainting using techniques of color blocking, tone, shadow and highlights. The third step will be the completed painting in oil paint and more focus on details. Most supplies are included. Students need to bring a photo printed on paper (approximately) 8x10” as a reference image and a 16x20” stretched canvas.

We welcome new students or students who are resuming their art journey to register and try out a new medium they have been on the fence about and have always wanted to try.
