So you Want to Write a Novel: The Basics of Story Structure with Carla Luna Cullen
Wednesday, September 27: 7-8:30 pm
Do you have a great idea for a book but don’t know how to get started? When you’re staring down a blank page, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed as you try to figure out what comes next. This is where story structure comes in. Story structure is like a map that identifies key elements of the dramatic plot and helps you chart your course from beginning to end. In this class, we’ll review the basics of story structure and learn how these building blocks can help you outline your novel. Using popular forms of narrative structure such as The Hero’s Journey and Save the Cat, we’ll break down a few books and movies to serve as examples. We’ll also discuss the ways in which your characters can drive the plot. Please bring a notebook and pen/pencil.
