The Milwaukee-based Vitrolum Republic's sound combines classical elements with folk, bluegrass, blues and gypsy tango, a style all their own which they have come to call Gypsy Noir.

The group was founded by two brothers from Milwaukee, Nick Waraksa (Piano, Accordian, Vocals) and Jordan Waraksa (Violin, Guitar, Vocals). Later joined by Chuck Lawton of Grafton (Bass, Guitar, Vocals) and Benjamin Schaefer of Cedarburg (Percussion), the group has released two albums and received recognition at local and international film festivals.

“At their core, The Vitrolum Republic’s songs are kindered to the emotional folk-pop of Mumford & Sons, but they touch on far more influences than that group, juggling both American roots and Eastern European folk-music traditions.”  ~ Shepherd Express

Cedarburg native Wolfgang Schaefer is the brother of The Vitrolum Republic percussionist Ben Schaefer. "This Milwaukee resident plays the lonely guitar and sings with the true tired voice of the open plain troubadour...” -Slowcoustic.com
