Cedarburg’s Kuhefuss House Museum will open for a summer season of educational and historic public tours on June 15.

The Kuhefuss House, in the heart of Cedarburg’s historic downtown, dates from 1849 and was home to five generations of one of Cedarburg’s oldest families. In 1989 the late Marie Kuhefuss, the last of the family to occupy the house, willed it to the Cedarburg Cultural Center to be operated as a museum.

The tours highlight both the history and architecture of the 160-year-old house, which began as a simple, small wooden structure and was added to and updated as the family grew and modern conveniences became available. The museum’s docents interpret both the architectural heritage and the German-American cultural heritage of Cedarburg, as embodied in the house.

Tours will be conducted from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays and from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, June 15 through August 24.

Special tour hours during Cedarburg festivals are as follows:
Strawberry Festival: Friday: House will not be open; Saturday, June 23, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. : Sunday, June 24, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wine and Harvest Festival: Friday: House will not be open; Saturday, September 15, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, September 16, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
