Artist in Residence: Nancy Going

Thu, February 23, 2012 1:00 PM

Nancy is a local jewelry artist specializing in the creation of beautiful beaded pieces. She has been beading for over 20 years, and her work is constantly evolving as she reaches for the highest artistic and quality standards. Going believes jewelry is meant to last and be enjoyed and focuses on using high quality components to preserve integrity of the piece.

The artist’s designs are one of a kind art pieces that are meant to be treasured and enjoyed every day. Nancy has designed for brides and wedding parties, special events celebrations and family milestones, and has great fun and success in repurposing “heritage” jewelry. She describes herself as a designer who can take a client’s desires and turn them into wearable pieces of art that reflect that person’s personality and taste.

Going describes the inspiration for her jewelry works…
“I have always appreciated God’s amazing natural masterpieces. More than grand places my inspiration comes from God’s smallest details, the colors and textures that make up our world and add to the quality of our lives. I grew up surrounded by strong, loving women who enjoyed working with their hands. My childhood was filled with plants and gardening, animals, fabrics, antiques and all of the pleasures of living in a beach community. I believe gardening to be the foundation for my beading, mixing colors and textures, delighting in the finished product.”

As a memberof the Cedarburg Artists Guild, Nancy participates regularly in the exhibits at the Main Street Gallery at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, the Covered Bridge Studio Tour, held annually during the second weekend of October and the Holiday Art Fair on each first weekend in December at the Cedarburg Community Gym. In addition, she hosts the Free Range Art Show the weekend before Mother’s Day on her farm in the Town of Cedarburg.

The artist will be joining us every Tuesday and Thursday in February to demonstrate her work, meet the public and talk about her beaded jewelry. There is no charge to come, visit with the artist and learn about her art.
