Don’t miss an evening with Mindy and Erick, LIVE at the Cedarburg Cultural Center! Hot off her concert at the Grand Ole Opry, Mindy travels to Cedarburg for a rare Wisconsin appearance. Don’t miss her unmistakable presence and alluring voice.

Few singers are better prepared than Smith to sing convincingly about such a wide range of emotions. Her pure, unaffected soprano illuminates her words and sentiments—even when it seems as if she is singing for just herself, as on the intimate “Telescope.” Each performance is rendered with exquisite care. Listen to the way she slowly rises out of world-weary dejection on the opening “What Went Wrong,” the light gradually filling her voice like dawn breaking over the horizon. Effortless as these performances feel, Smith is a perfectionist when she steps up to the microphone. “It is really important to me for every vocal to be as good as it can be.”

Just a quick reminder that one of our biggest fundraisers of the year is coming up this weekend, August 1 & 2. Formerly known as the Stone and Century House Tour, this year’s tour features six seven interesting properties ( free admission to the Kuhefuss House Museum) in a compact walking tour of downtown Cedarburg.

1850-Joosse Whitehouse Home

The structures on the tour date back as far as 1850, but also include some buildings completely remodeled with sustainable materials and utilizing “green” technology. There is something for everyone on this year’s tour.

Tickets are still only $12 in advance / $15 day-of-the-tour (that’s less than $1.72 per stop if you buy them before Saturday).

Why not just park your car at the Center and make a day of it in historic downtown Cedarburg. Enjoy the homes at your leisure on Saturday, August 1 from 9 am-5 pm and/or Sunday, August 2 from noon -4 pm.

Here’s my suggested itinerary…

Take a tour or two

Shop on your way to lunch at any one of Cedarburg’s great outdoor restaurants

Walk off your lunch and stop at some shops on the way to the next tours

Enjoy local gardens and other historic buildings along your way

Shop and grab a sweet treat at one of Cedarburg’s candy shops or bakeries

Walk off your treat on the way to the next tours

Shop on your way to get a cool drink at a local pub or outdoor bistro

Still walking off your treat from earlier, enjoy the Kuhefuss House Museum just 2 blocks from the Center where your car is located.

So there you have it! A great way to spend a summer day in downtown Cedarburg. And if that isn’t enough to make you want to take the tour, here is some information on the great tour stops the committee has lined up for this year.

Well, we’ve finally done it! We’re launching our new newsletter/blog to keep everyone up-to-date on what’s going on at the Center. It seems to us, that our website is fine for long range planning and information but there is just so much that happens here on a daily basis, that we decided we needed a better way to let you know some of the day-to-day events. Our plan is for everyone on the staff to get involved and let you know what is happening in our classrooms, galleries, on stage and in our historic venues. No two days are ever alike here so you can expect a lot of interesting news to come your way.

Since we’ve got a lot of catching up to do for the summer season, we’ll tell you that Strawberry Festival was a huge success for the Cultural Center. The proceeds from that weekend help keep our doors open all summer long during our slow season. (I know, I just told you how busy we are, but it’s summer and most people want to stay outside as long as possible.) But that doesn’t mean we’re not busy! This is the time of the year when the staff is planning our 2010 season on stage and in the classrooms. We’ll tell you about that in a few weeks.

Our Plein Air Contest-Youth Division was also very successful this year with 236 budding young artists from the ages of 3-17 years of age. Artist JP Stanfield submitted one of the most unusual Cedarburg sitings to date. (I must have been in my office the day the aliens attacked the Pagoda)

We’ll post more artwork over the next few days and begin uploading some of our historic photos along with some interesting stories about your favorite Cedarburg landmarks.

Let us know what you think!
