VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHY FOR KIDS!
”Claymation” Art and Clay Animation Moviemaking / Ages 8 and up
Saturday / February 9 / 9 am-1 pm


Join us for this one-of-a-kind class that combines art, photography and videography when you make your own “Claymation” movie with teacher Carrie Hoelzer. Make your very own movie with scenery, imagination and clay! Move your characters through the frames of the stories capturing each frame one-by-one with your own digital camera. The photos will be imported into Adobe Premiere Elements using computer stations at the Center, edited, animated, and burned to a dvd for future sharing. Sound files may be explored as well. Be the first kid on your block to learn clay animation! Limited seating, register early! Bring digital camera, all other supplies included.

Students need to have an overactive imagination, USB cords are necessary for connecting the camera to a PC and a basic working knowledge of the digital camera they bring to class. We will provide the clay, clay tools and computers to capture your very own movie animation! Bring a snack/lunch and beverage.

VIDEO WORKSHOP FOR KIDS! Ages 8 and up
Saturday / February 2 / 9 am-1 pm 

Instructor Carrie Hoelzer will teach students how to create great video footage during class (or bring existing footage from home). Then using computers at the Cultural Center, kids will learn how to import, edit, add text and sound files to their finished video projects. Burning the project onto a DVD playable by a standard home player will be the final step in the process. Limited seating, register early! Supply list.

PHOTO SLIDE SHOW WORKSHOP/ Ages 8 and up
Saturday / May 3 / 9 am-1 pm 

Hey kids! Relive your favorite party, vacation or favorite pet with a photo slideshow that you create yourself! Using photos from your digital camera, Carrie will teach you how to turn them into a fun movie with titles, music, or your own voice! Bring your imagination and some of your favorite photos and be prepared to have some fun with this class. The finished project will be burned onto a DVD to take home! Supply list.

Adobe Photoshop Elements Photo Manipulation Workshop Ages 8 and up
Saturday, February 23 / 9am-1pm
Get ready for summer vacation fun with your digital camera! Learn to create interesting photos, download them from your digital camera, insert them into a computer, crop and make simple corrections to lighting and color. Be creative and try your hand at photo montage as well! Supply list.
 

Students need a basic working knowledge of the camera they bring to class, USB cords are necessary for connecting the camera to a PC. A flash drive or blank DVD is necessary only if students wish to take their class work home.

This isn't just an ordinary Saturday morning cartoon; it’s your very own creation done in this popular cartoon drawing class for kids ages 8 and up. Kids will learn how to illustrate their very own characters and then move them into a storyboard to create a cartoon strip! Kids…let your imagination run wild with this fun class that turns doodling into artwork!

SCRAPBOOKING

Make your own scrapbook using great papers and chipboard. During our first class we will work with your child to create the covers to this fantastic book. Each week we will focus on the different family members to create a beautiful Family Scrapbook. Week 2 we will work on pages about Me and Mom & Dad. Week 3 we will work on pages about Siblings, Grandma & Grandpa. Week 4 we will work on pages about Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Children do not need to bring pictures to class, but can if they want to. Students will need to purchase their own adhesive for the class.

MULTICULTURAL ART APPRECIATION for Home Schoolers

African and Latin Cultures

Building upon the success of our 2006 KidsWeek program, the Center is pleased to bring back a portion of our multicultural art sessions featuring the cultures of Africa and Latin America. Young people will make several projects using 3-D and 2-D techniques while learning the history behind their works. Supplies included.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING for Home Schoolers

Artist Corky Jon is back for another watercolor painting class to get kids ready for Cedarburg’s “Plein Air” Painting Contest in June. The first class will focus on capturing the beauty of the landscape around you while working in the Kuhefuss House Museum gardens. Session two will feature techniques for capturing structures in your work. Corky will explain how to achieve correct perspective, shading, sources of light and the use of color. Includes a free registration in the Plein Air Painting Contest-Youth Division. Supplies included.

MULTIMEDIA DRAWING for Home Schoolers
Tuesdays /February 5, 12, 19, 26 March 4 and 11 / 10-11 am / 6 hours
This art class for students ages 8 and up encompasses numerous drawing styles and techniques such as pen/ink, graphite, pastel, contour line drawing, cross hatch and more. Students will be learning how to incorporate different styles and techniques into their own drawing style, as well as how to apply them to the basic principles of balance, subject and format. Students will experiment with numerous drawing techniques, applying them together or separately in their own work.

JAPANESE ILLUSTRATIONS for Home Schoolers
Tuesdays / March 18 and 25 / 11 am – 12:30 pm

This cultural art class will focus on styles and techniques from the Far East, including rendering drawings with the use of bamboo brushes and ink. Topics for illustration will include cherry blossoms, koi fish and bamboo just to name a few. Supplies included.

INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING for Home Schoolers

As the basis for most other art forms, learning to draw with proper proportions, perspective, layout and shading is essential in the life of an artist. Students will learn the basics of drawing and many other techniques to get them started in the world of 2-D art. Supplies included.

ETCHING AND PRINTMAKING for Home Schoolers

Learn how to make detailed drawings and finely etched prints in this class using a multitude of materials. Students will also use plexiglass in this class to make prints and drawings. Supplies included.

COLLAGE for Home Schoolers

Nicole has prepared this special class for ages 5 and up to explore the techniques of mixed media collage. Students will make interesting pictures and designs using their imaginations and a number of different mediums for this fun and active class. Supplies included.

INTRODUCTION TO SCRATCHBOARD for Home Schoolers
Thursdays / April 3 and 10 / 1-2pm

In this class we will learn how to manipulate the scratchboard and focusing on rendering pictures of animals and landscapes. Scratchboard is an interesting and fun medium to experiment in. Adults are welcome to join in with their children! Supplies included.

They are furry, furless, slimy, rough, spiky and hairy. They are small, big, bigger and biggest. It is a complex relationship that we have with the animals. Now you can learn to draw them with proper proportions and textures. Supplies included.

GREETING CARD ILLUSTRATION for Home Schoolers

This class will explore the basics of illustration and the creation of designs suitable for making your own personalized greeting cards! Bring in your favorite saying or poem for that special someone in your life.

Attention kids who love their pets! Don’t miss this special class to come in and play with clay while making very special water bowl and food dish for their favorite dog…cat and iguana lovers are welcome, too! Corky Jon will take kids through the entire process of creating dinnerware from a lump of clay through decorating, glazing and firing the finished pieces. Supplies included.

SCULPTURE
SCULPT YOUR TWIN

Yep, that’s right! Come and make a life-size paper maché figure who can hang out in your room with you! Corky will teach students about building armatures, creating correct proportions and finishing a sculpture. Dress for a messy class! Supplies included.

MADSCIENCE

NEW! MadScience CAMPS FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS (4-6 years old)
Join us for these new age appropriate interactive science workshops just for preschoolers! Each themed program is designed to captivate the curious nature of your children. Preschoolers will enjoy engaging demonstrations, perform simple experiments and discover how science can help them better understand the world around them.
MadScience - SCIENCE WONDERS CAMP! (Ages 4-6)
February 7, 14, 21, 28 / 10-11 / $48 per child  

Week #1-Human Body-Campers will meet Mr. Bones and learn about muscles and body systems

Week # 2-Space Frontiers-Boldly travel through the fantastic solar system and sign-up for our MadScience Astronaut-in-Training Program.

Week #3-Weather Wonders-Rain, snow, sleet or hail. Whatever the conditions outside, we’ll have fun learning about weather patterns and the water cycle.

Week #4- Eye to Eye-Open your eyes and see the world through telescopes, binoculars and other instruments. Discover how our eyes work and the amazing tricks they can play!

Fee: $48 per child

MadScience - "SCIENCE DISCOVERIES CAMP" (Ages 4-6)
Thursdays / April 3, 10, 17, 24 / 10-11 am /

Week #1-Dinosaurs – Junior paleontologists will learn about fossilization and excavating as they “dig” for dinosaurs. Discovering which dinosaurs are herbivores, omnivores or carnivores helps children understand how dinosaurs lived. Each child will get to make their very own cast of a dinosaur tooth to take home.

Week #2 – Water Works- In this introduction to water, preschoolers will learn about how the density of an object determines if it will float or sink. They will also discover what objects absorb water and what role surface tension plays in how things float.

Week #3 – Mad Mixtures – Kids will experience eruptions of fun and excitement involving volcanoes and other simple chemistry experiments. Each child will make their very own MadScience dough to take home.

Week #4 – World of Worms – Zoom into the fascinating world of worms, using magnifying glasses and other scientific tools. The kids will even get their very own worm to take home and release into their garden.

MadScience - DETECTIVE SCIENCE (Ages 5-12)

Discover how science is used to solve real crimes. Watch as the room is transformed into a crime lab for this exploration into the fundamentals of forensics. Become a science sleuth as we discover how police use chemistry and our 5 senses to “clue in” at the crime scene …so much fun, its criminal!

MadScience - BUBBLES, SMOKE & EXPLOSIONS!! (Ages 5-12)
Saturday / February 2 / 9:30-Noon / $30

MadScience invites you to have fun with chemistry. Build a real fire extinguisher and watch a film canister explode! Learn about our solar system and make a comet using everyday items. Have a “shocking” good time with a Van de Graaff generator and experience lightning first-hand.

MadScience - ROCKING ROCKETS (Ages 5-12)
Saturday / April 26 / 9:30-Noon
MadScience invites you to launch your knowledge of rockets in our exciting class. Experience a real rocket launch when you fire off a rocket like the one you built. Each child will build their own rocket to take home. We will also learn about parachutes, streamers, helicopters and other types of recovery systems in this fun-filled class.
